Artist Statement

My art is a visual exploration of the delicate balance between humanity and nature often delving into the complex relationship of ownership and enclosure along with nature’s boundless ability to break free. As an artist deeply enamoured with water and a firm believer in The Blue Mind philosophy, my work seeks to portray the connection we share with water and the impact it has on our well-being.

In my creative process, I draw inspiration from the notion of humans attempting to claim dominion over nature, enclosing it within borders and structures. Through my art, I question the implications of such actions, reflecting on the consequences of our attempts to assert control over the natural world. The themes of ownership and enclosure serve as a powerful metaphor for the broader context of how humanity interacts with the environment and the toll it takes on both ourselves and nature.

As a lover of water, I find solace, inspiration, and tranquillity in its ever-changing presence. The Blue Mind belief, which underscores the positive impacts of water on mental health and creativity, becomes an integral part of my artistic narrative. Through my work, I aim to evoke the soothing and contemplative nature of water, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in a visual journey that elicits a sense of calm.

In my artistic practice, I employ a variety of mediums, from fluid and expressive watercolours, controlled oils to translucent and free-flowing  alcohol-based inks. Water often finds its way into my creations, either as a central element or as a subtle presence, symbolizing the enduring connection between humans and the natural world. I also incorporate resin in some pieces to further highlight a harmonious relationship with water.

Ultimately, my artistic journey is a testament to the power of artistic expression in fostering a deeper understanding of our place in the world as I aspire to contribute to a collective consciousness that cherishes and protects our planet.

Working on some commissions and getting some applications in. It’s all part of being an artist but I can never resist a new brush set #irishartist #artcollection #irishart
  • Can you guess where this is? This is one of my most popular prints and always sparks great conversations when shown. It reiminds everyone of somewhere different. It’s brought up memories of grandparents, childhood holidays, rural Ireland and France to name a few. If it reminds you of somewhere special let me know in the comments. #oilpainting #irishartist #artcollection
  • Let’s talk about this one…. Atlantic Plunge was created using alcohol inks on Yupo paper it captures the moment you dive in. The movement, the effervescent fizz and freshness of sea water as it rushes across your skin. Even when you’ve adjusted it continues to move and bubble around you. There is no other feeling like it. Capturing that feeling in art wasn’t easy but this piece done with ink caught it. The inks are fluid on the Yupo and are uncontrollable and unpredictable making them great for water. They are also not colour fast so originals don’t last. Getting these printed as Giclee prints on museum standard archival paper means they will last the test of time. I like to keep my editions small so I only having 25 in each size. #irishartist #giclée #limitededitionprint #oceanart #seaart
  • Framing a beautiful @kevinloweryart print that I picked up at Art Evolve a couple of weeks ago. I love his use of colours. I’m putting a gallery wall together as I collect limited edition prints. I now have too many to just hang them individually so a gallery wall on the way up to my studio should work. #artcollection #artist #oilpainter #irishartist #fingalartist
